Will C — EMS Provider Master, Staff Lieutenant

Will C is a Montgomery County EMS Provider Master and Staff Lieutenant at the Glen Echo Fire Department. He started volunteering at Glen Echo in 2020, during the peak of the COVID pandemic. Since then, he has been checked off to staff the ambulance as a charge aide (A2) and driver (A1), and operate the UTV as a provider and driver. Will has also led the Special Events Committee, planning some of our most popular events each year: our Annual Open House, Santa Runs, and race and parade staffing. He is currently training to become a Duty Officer, after which he will take on more responsibilities, such as supervising duty crews and addressing operational concerns as they arise. We are thrilled to highlight Will for our May Member of the Month spotlight!
Please introduce yourself.
I’m Will C, a research analyst you joined GEFD while still in undergrad in 2020! I am an EMT who has served as a crew lead, ambulance/UTV driver, and now I’m working on stepping into the GEFD Duty Officer role.
What is your favorite part of being an EMT?
My favorite part of being an EMT is the culture of constant advancement and learning. We are constantly facing new challenges or unique calls, so the focus at GEFD on consistent, realistic training is huge and has kept me coming back all these years. Whether it’s mastering how to splint fractures and dislocations or becoming an expert in all things apparatus, there’s so many opportunities available to learn and grow.
5. What is your favorite call type to respond to?
My favorite type of calls are our river/trail rescue because it is the peak of GEFD and MCFRS (and sometimes federal state and fire) working as a team. These calls bring a lot of different units that have to work in tandem to rescue, treat, and transport the patient. As a crew lead, it challenges me to step up my familiarity with the local area, radio communications, and interagency coordination.
Thank you, Will, for your service and dedication to the department!
